Research Facilities
Facilities available to the program include several preparative
ultracentrifuges, high-speed centrifuges, gamma and liquid scintillation
counters, environmentally controlled rooms and chambers, microbial and
tissue culture rooms, laminar flow hoods, research microscopes, inverted
microscopes, electron microscopes, protein purification and electrophoresis
equipment of several types, and microcomputers. Faculty laboratories are
equipped appropriately for specialized research activities of the faculty
members. Facilities for mass spectrometry, NMR, fluoroimaging, and
computer-assisted DNA, RNA, and protein sequence analysis as well as housing
for research animals and plants are available to the program participants.
Library holdings include 1.1 million volumes; over 8,000 periodicals are
received at present. The current literature in molecular and cellular
biology is covered particularly well.
